A Midsummer Elopement in Vermont

It was such an honor to photograph this nontraditional and intimate wedding on all film.

Autumn is a super talented wedding photographer herself, so I was honored when she asked me to photograph her and Josh’s intimate wedding this past summer. When planning their wedding, Autumn and Josh approached it simply as planning their ideal day. They wanted it to feel relaxed and personal, and to include their closest family and friends.

Autumn and Josh were married at Josh’s parents’ spectacular home in Vermont. They started out their wedding day by driving to one of their favorite nearby swimming holes. There, they shared their private vows to one another while standing in the river, and took a bracing cold plunge afterwards. After stopping to grab coffee at a local spot, they headed back to get ready for their wedding ceremony.

This wedding ceremony was one of the most personal and detailed I have ever photographed. They served all their guests a glass of wine before the ceremony began, and they ended the ceremony with a group hug. The two asked their family and friends to read them words of wisdom and encouragement. They were married by one of their closest friends, and he even surprised the couple with a unity ceremony in which they planted a tree together. It was extraordinarily beautiful.

After the ceremony, everyone ate champagne and cake, and we wandered the home’s beautiful grounds for couples portraits. We were even joined by the beloved family horse Twist for a few. We capped off the day by going to their favorite spot in town for a Veromont Creemee.

The photos below were all shot on 35mm and medium format film. And there’s also a link to the Super 8 video we did for them.

I still have a few spots open for 2024 elopements and intimate weddings, so if you’re interested in having your wedding be documented all on film get in touch and let’s chat!
