I’ve been fortunate enough to book some weddings of my own but also to second shoot for many talented local photographers over this past wedding season. And I’ve gotten to work in a lot of different places, from the Perth CBD to the beach, to the Swan Valley and the Perth Hills. It’s been a wonderful way to explore our new home. So I thought I would write a little bit about some of my favorite Perth Wedding Venues so far.
COMO the Treasury/The State Buildings
COMO the Treasury is a beautiful hotel tucked in the heart of the Perth CBD. It has lovely, light-filled rooms, and even if you aren’t getting married there, it’s a wonderful place to get ready for your wedding. In addition to the interiors, it’s located right next to Stirling Gardens. The Gardens can be used as a ceremony location, or just for some portraits. I think the variety of scenery nearby is one of the things that makes this venue so special. You can have wedding portraits in nature and just a short walk away you can have them at some lovely buildings for a more urban feel. For receptions, COMO the Treasury has a variety of spaces for weddings of various sizes, including the massive Postal Hall with gorgeous architectural details. Weddings here feel luxurious and elevated.

Cottesloe Civic Centre tops my list of favorite Perth wedding venues because it is just so pretty. It has lush gardens with beautiful stonework and staircases, and it gets stunning afternoon light. Its massive lawn is the perfect spot for ceremonies, cocktail hours, and outdoor receptions. And in the colder months, you can have a reception in the elegant wood-paneled indoor space. There are so many spots to take portraits here I could roam around the garden for hours. It’s enough of a blank space that you could dress it up with custom drapery and dramatic florals, but it’s also elegant enough to be pretty with more minimal styling. It’s also nearby a number of hotels for getting ready.

University of Western Australia
UWA has some of the prettiest older architecture in all of Perth. Its lovely buildings, archways, and gardens make a beautiful and varied backdrop for all kinds of wedding portraits, from family and wedding party photos to intimate couple’s shots. So it’s a good destination even just to take couples portraits at. But it also has several spots for wedding ceremonies. I think my favorite of those is the Sunken Garden, where you can get married tucked away in a shady garden surrounded by dramatic stone staircases. You can have a reception here in a marquee or indoors at the University Club.

Located south of Perth near the beach, Coogee Common is an old hotel that has been transformed into an elegant restaurant that hosts beautiful wedding celebrations. The indoor spaces and patio are modern while still retaining a lot of the original character of the building, and the surrounding gardens are lush and inviting. Like lots of venues close to the coast here, it gets amazing afternoon light. Additionally, the food here is pretty spectacular. And I think there’s something incredibly chic about a restaurant wedding, especially when it’s held at one as gorgeous as Coogee Common. I’m really excited to have a few weddings coming up at different Perth restaurants like Ode to Sirens in Fremantle. I’ll have to make a follow-up post with more options.

Core Cider is an orchard and cider maker in the Perth Hills. It has several patios and indoor spaces for receptions that are surrounded by their apple orchards and grounds. You can get married outdoors by their pond, and guests walk through the orchards to get there. Their ciders are also very delicious, and guests seemed to have fun trying cider flights during cocktail hour at the wedding I shot there. What really stands out to me about this venue is how stunning it is for portraits at sunset. We traipsed into the orchard and up on a hill where there were beautiful backdrops that showcased the beauty of the Perth Hills. It looked like a location we would have had to hike to in order to access, but in reality it was just a quick drive through the orchard and a few minutes of walking. Core also has a really elegant yet unfussy vibe about it that I think is very nice for weddings.

Masonmill is also in the Perth Hills, which is a lovely area to explore. Perched on a hill above a small vineyard, it’s a wedding venue that is compact and contained, but still offers everything you need. It has a series of elegant courtyards and gardens where you can hold your ceremony and cocktail hour, and an open-air covered patio area for receptions. There are beautiful little pockets throughout the space that feel more European than Perth Hills! Overall, it has spaces that dress up really nicely, and good areas for all kinds of portraits without having to go too far. Each space feels distinct from the last one, but everything is incredibly easy to access.
