Mayes is an artist herself, and when she asked me to photograph her intimate wedding in New York City on film, I was so excited. The couple actually got married in their Manhattan home with some of their closest family and friends. They had a low-key first look as the first guests were arriving and then when the moment felt right everyone headed outdoors to the patio for the ceremony. The vows were heartfelt and a friend officiated as everyone looked on. The ceremony backdrop was the view of the Manhattan streets that had come to mean a lot to the couple during their time there.
After the ceremony, we took a few quick portraits and then everyone headed to one of the couple’s favorite local restaurants for their reception. I loved that Mayes and Michael focused the day on just being with the people they loved and sharing good food and wine with them. The whole day felt relaxed, and any traditions that didn’t resonate with the couple simply weren’t included.
I also loved how stylish this wedding was! Mayes short gown with puff sleeves was the perfect choice for an elopement or intimate wedding in Manhattan. It was so effortless and chic! Her choice of flowers was much the same, with a minimal white color palette making everything feel super modern.
The photos below were mostly shot on 35mm film, with some digital and fun shots on my Holga mixed in. I still have a few spots open for 2024 elopements and intimate weddings, so if you’re interested get in touch and let’s chat!
