This April, I was fortunate enough to get to go back to Iceland to film Stephanie and Bruno’s gorgeous elopement in the southern part of the country. These two decided to forego tradition and spend their wedding day exploring a new country together – just the two of them. And it was beautiful. The day before their wedding ceremony we drove to the Snæfellsnes Peninsula and spent a few hours looking at the coast and doing their engagement shoot. It was brutally windy and cold, but Bruno and Stephanie braved it anyway. We just huddled under coats and ran back to the car to get warm in between locations.

The next morning we all met Stephanie and Bruno at their hotel in Reykjavic, where they chose to get ready together. Then, we drove two hours to a little town near Iceland’s south coast to meet their wedding officiant. Soon, we were standing in front of a lovely waterfall a bit off the beaten path. Stephanie and Bruno said their vows to one another underneath it, the roar of the water so loud that only they could hear the promises they made. A few curious hikers stopped to watch the ceremony and offer congratulations, and one of them even ended up signing the marriage certificate as a witness!

After the ceremony, we drove along the South Coast to Vik, where we explored the black sand beaches and caves along the coast. The whole day was rainy (I don’t think my lens was fully dry from the time we stepped outside until checking into our AirBnB that night!). We stood on cliffs and watched the waves crashing, and just as the sun was setting we were suddenly surrounded by dozens of puffins. Watching them nestle into the grassy cliff-side while the sky darkened was the perfect end to an amazing day.
