Alex and Seth met me at Dexter Drumlin in Lancaster, Massachusetts for their engagement session a few weeks ago on the most lovely sultry September afternoon. The fall colors were just starting to appear, the sun was shining, and everything was beautiful. Also – if you haven’t been to Dexter Drumlin, you should definitely go check it out. From the road, it just looks like an unassuming little hill, but hike to the top and you will be rewarded with some of the most stunning views I have seen in Massachusetts. You can look out over the rolling hills and green farmland to nearby towns and a white steeple peeking up from the tree tops. It looks like you’re in England or Scotland. Those of you who know me may also know that I basically want to live in a lush movie adaptation of a Jane Austen novel, so almost living that dream here with Alex and Seth was pretty much perfect.
Alex is a painter and Seth is a high school English teacher, so I was so excited to meet these two and nerd out with them about art and books. And they were kind and gracious and lovely – just the kind of people you immediately want to become friends with. Also, about a week or so before the shoot Alex emailed me wanting to use smoke bombs in their session! I was probably unreasonably excited about it, and it ended up working out so well (although I think we made a passer-by walking his dog a bit nervous at first).
We walked in the tall grass and the husks of this summer’s wildflowers. The sun set. The moon rose. The night fell. We hugged and parted ways until their backyard wedding next July. And I can’t wait.
